A man believed to be a Ghanaian has reportedly been captured by the Ukrainian Army alongside dozens of suspected Russian fighters amid the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia.

In a video circulating online sighted by Daily View Gh, a group of men, most of whom appeared to be foreigners dressed in what looked like Russian military uniforms, were seen being interrogated by Ukrainian personnel after their capture.

During the interrogation, each of the detainees was asked to introduce himself by stating his name, age, and country of origin.

One of the men identified himself as Ayuba Yussif, saying he is 30 years old and from Ghana.

Also among those captured were three Kenyan nationals who introduced themselves as Peter Jenga, 32, Mutayi Felix, 28, and Martin, 36.

Several Ghanaians and other African nationals are reportedly being lured to Russia with promises of jobs, only to find themselves recruited into the Russian military.

The victims are allegedly offered employment opportunities in Russia but, upon arrival, are pressured or deceived into signing military contracts and joining the armed forces.

The government of Ghana has said that at least 272 Ghanaians have been lured into the Russia-Ukraine war since 2022, with many reportedly recruited through deceptive job offers.
