The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of two suspects in connection with the fatal robbery attack on the Berekum Chelsea FC team bus, which claimed the life of player Dominic Frimpong.
According to a press release issued by the Ashanti Regional Police Headquarters on April 16, 2026, the arrests were made following a coordinated intelligence-led operation involving multiple police units. The suspects were linked to the robbery attack that occurred on April 12, 2026, along the Ahyiresu–Kwame Dwumor Sreso (KDS) road in the Nyinahin District.
Police identified the suspects as Mohammed Ahmed, also known as “I Can Do,” believed to be the gang leader, and Bawa Gideon. The two were apprehended at Atimatim in Kumasi after reportedly attempting to flee and opening fire on officers.
Items retrieved during the operation include a pistol loaded with two rounds of .32 ammunition, eleven BB cartridges, pepper spray, desert boots, several mobile phones, and a black pullover believed to be linked to the crime.
During interrogation, Mohammed Ahmed allegedly confessed to involvement in multiple robberies, including the attack on the Berekum Chelsea bus, the Nkawie robbery, and an assault on a mobile vendor at Fufuo. He also named accomplices—Dauda, Huefe, and A.T.—who remain at large and have since been declared wanted by the police.
Mohammed Ahmed is currently receiving medical treatment under police guard at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, while Bawa Gideon remains in custody assisting with investigations.
The police have appealed to the public to provide any information that could lead to the arrest of the remaining suspects. Authorities have also assured that efforts are ongoing to dismantle the entire criminal network and bring all perpetrators to justice.
The Police Command commended officers involved in the operation for their professionalism and thanked the public for their cooperation, emphasizing that the suspects will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
