The Sunyani Anglican Diocese has elected the Very Reverend Martin Apraku Amankwah as the new Coadjutor Bishop of the Diocese.

The Coadjutor Bishop, the Church said, worked closely with the diocesan bishop in overseeing the spiritual, pastoral and administrative life of the diocese and would normally succeed the diocesan bishop.

Addressing a news conference at Sunyani, The Right Rev. Dr Festus Yeboah Asuamah, the Anglican Bishop of the Sunyani Diocese, said a special Synod of the diocese held on April 11, 2026, elected the Very Rev. Amankwah for the ministry.

He explained that his appointment had since been confirmed by the Episcopal Synod, in accordance with the provisions of the Provincial Constitution.

“His testimony has been given of piety, sobriety and honesty of life to be Coadjutor Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Sunyani, and of his sound doctrine and faithfulness of the discipline of the church of Christ and of worthiness of his moral conduct,” Rt. Rev Dr Asuamah indicated.

The Diocesan Bishop delivered the ‘Mandate of Consecration’ signed by the Most Rev. Dr Cyril Kobina Ben-Smith, the Metropolitan Archbishop and Primate, saying that “Testimony has been given of his having been made deacon on September 15, 2007, and ordained on June 28, 2008.”

“Now therefore we, by Divine Prudence Metropolitan Archbishop and Primate of the Province of West Africa, do by this our mandate, direct that due order be taken for the consecration of Very Rev. Amankwah to the office of the Bishop in the Church of God,” Rt. Rev. Dr Asuamah, stated.

He congratulated Very Rev. Amankwah and expressed the hope that he would help strengthen relationships among the clergy, laity, parishes, institutions and other partners of the church.

The Very Rev Amankwah expressed appreciation to the clergy, laity, parishes and the entire Anglican church for the confidence reposed in him, pledging to work tirelessly not only to advance the holistic growth of the diocese, but Christendom in general.
