Prophet William Gyimah Arrested for Alleged Threat Against Vice-President

Arrest Details.

Prophet William Gyimah, the General Overseer of Elohim International Ministry based in Kasoa, was arrested on Tuesday, April 7, 2026. The arrest followed accusations of issuing a death threat against Ghana’s Vice-President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, in a viral video.

Operation and Investigation.

The arrest was conducted by the Inspector-General of Police’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET) as part of a targeted operation in the Central Region. This action was initiated after CVET intercepted a “high-priority viral video” circulating on platforms like TikTok, where the suspect allegedly made the threat.

Following his arrest, Prophet Gyimah has been transferred to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to aid in the investigation.

Police Statement and Public Caution.

In response to the incident, the Ghana Police Service issued a statement urging the public and media organizations to avoid using their platforms to spread content that could incite unrest or threaten national peace and security.

“The Police Administration wishes to strongly caution the public and media houses against using their platforms to foment trouble or disseminate content that threatens the peace and security of the state,” the statement emphasized.

Ongoing Investigation.

The Police Service has assured the public that they will be kept informed with further updates as the investigation progresses. The authorities are committed to maintaining peace and ensuring that any threats to national security are addressed promptly.
