Armed Robber Killed in Shootout on Atebubu-Ejura Highway.


A dramatic encounter unfolded on the Atebubu-Ejura stretch of the Ejura-Atebubu-Yeji highway in the Ashanti Region on March 25, 2026. Late in the night, at approximately 11:10 p.m., a patrol team from the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) Headquarters engaged in a gun battle with a group of armed robbers. The confrontation resulted in the death of one suspect, while the rest managed to escape into the nearby bush.


Incident Details.


The police patrol team was on routine duty near the town of Kasei when they encountered a gang of about five armed men. The robbers attempted to halt the police's unmarked vehicle using flashlights. Armed with an AK-47 rifle, single-barrel guns, machetes, and sticks, the suspects opened fire on the officers, initiating a fierce exchange of gunfire.


Outcome of the Shootout.


During the shootout, one of the suspected robbers was shot and fell, while the remaining members of the gang fled into the bush. Following the confrontation, a detailed search was conducted on the injured suspect, leading to the recovery of

several items:

  1. Weapons and Ammunition:
  2. A single-barrel gun
  3. Five live cartridges
  4. Two spent cartridges
  5. Two spent AK-47 rounds
  6. Six live AK-47 ammunition
  7. Other Items Recovered:
  8. A Samsung smartphone, a Tecno Spark 5 device, and six assorted keypad phones
  9. A machete
  10. A black hat
  11. A side bag containing coins and two wristwatches
  12. An amount of GH¢ 310.00

The injured suspect was promptly taken to the Atebubu Government Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. His body has been placed in the hospital morgue for preservation and an autopsy.


Ongoing Investigation.


The police are actively pursuing the remaining members of the robbery gang who managed to escape. Efforts are underway to track them down and bring them to justice. The incident underscores the persistent challenges faced by law enforcement in combating armed robbery and ensuring public safety in the region.
