EDGE Group has announced that its domestically developed defence systems intercepted more than 85% of the drones launched by Iran during a recent large-scale aerial assault, highlighting the growing strength of the United Arab Emirates’ military technology sector.
The company said the attack involved a total of 2,256 drones, forming part of a broader operation that also included missiles. According to EDGE, its counter-drone solutions—particularly those based on electronic warfare—were instrumental in disrupting and neutralising incoming threats before they could reach key infrastructure.
Officials noted that the systems relied heavily on locally engineered capabilities such as signal jamming, tracking, and airspace control, allowing for rapid response under real-time combat conditions. The high interception rate, they said, demonstrates both the reliability and effectiveness of UAE-built defence technology.
The development marks a significant step in the country’s long-term strategy to reduce reliance on foreign military imports while building a competitive, export-oriented defence industry. Analysts believe such performance in active conflict situations enhances the credibility of UAE-made systems on the global stage.
While some drones reportedly penetrated defences, the majority were successfully neutralised, limiting potential damage and reinforcing confidence in layered air defence strategies.
The announcement comes amid heightened regional tensions, where the increasing use of unmanned aerial systems has reshaped modern warfare. For EDGE Group, the outcome is being positioned as proof of its technological progress and a signal of the UAE’s emergence as a serious player in advanced defence manufacturing.
