Hafidh Ameir Hassan, husband of Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, has died while receiving treatment for a heart condition at a hospital in Zanzibar.
Hafidh became Tanzania’s first-ever First Gentleman when his wife became president in 2021, following the death of President John Magufuli.
The couple were married for decades and had four children, three sons and a daughter who is now a lawmaker.
Kenyan President William Ruto expressed his condolences, saying: “President Samia has lost a lifelong companion, her children a beloved father, and Tanzania a distinguished son.”
His death is not only a national loss for Tanzania but also a deeply personal moment for President Samia, who now mourns the man who stood beside her throughout her historic journey to the presidency.
