The football authorities in Senegal have officially filed an appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to challenge a controversial decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to strip the country of its 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title.

The move marks a significant escalation in the dispute between the West African nation and African football’s governing body. Senegal’s football leadership believes the ruling was unjust and is seeking legal redress through the world’s highest sports arbitration court.

Speaking on the matter, Moussa Mbaye, an Executive Committee member of the Senegalese Football Federation, stressed that the federation intends to handle the situation with composure and professionalism.

“We will not act emotionally, but in a very calm and very clear-headed way to best protect Senegal’s interests,” Mbaye said.

The appeal to CAS signals Senegal’s determination to fight the decision and potentially restore its status as AFCON champions. CAS will now review the case, assess the evidence presented by both sides, and determine whether CAF’s ruling should stand or be overturned.

The case is expected to draw significant attention across African football, as the outcome could have major implications for governance, disciplinary procedures, and the credibility of decisions made by CAF in continental competitions.
