The dispute surrounding the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title has taken a new turn after the Senegalese Football Federation officially filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
According to CAS, the appeal was formally registered on March 25, 2026. The federation is challenging the decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) that stripped Senegal of their AFCON title. In its submission, the FSF is seeking to overturn the ruling and have Senegal declared the rightful winners of the Africa Cup of Nations.
The Senegalese FA has also requested an immediate suspension of the deadline required to submit its full appeal brief. This request will remain in place until CAF officially provides the detailed grounds behind its decision to strip the title.
CAS confirmed that an Arbitral Panel will soon be appointed to review the case. Once the panel is established, a procedural calendar will be drawn up to guide the arbitration process and determine the next steps.
CAS Director General Matthieu Reeb assured that the court is well prepared to handle the matter. He stated that CAS has the expertise and independent arbitrators necessary to resolve such disputes efficiently. Reeb also acknowledged the growing anticipation among supporters and stakeholders, emphasizing that the case will be handled as quickly as possible while ensuring that all parties receive a fair hearing.
The appeal means the final outcome of the AFCON title dispute remains unresolved for now, as the football world awaits CAS’s verdict.
