A police officer pulled over a speeding car expecting to write a ticket.
Instead, he ended up delivering a baby.
In 2019, Collier County Sheriff’s Deputy Robert Pounds stopped a car in Florida after clocking it at 63 mph in a 45 mph zone.
When he approached the vehicle, the driver quickly explained why they were speeding.
His wife was in labor.
And the baby was already coming.
The deputy looked inside and realized there was no time to reach the hospital.
He called for paramedics and backup.
Then he ran back to his patrol car, grabbed gloves and a clean blanket, and returned to help.
Minutes later, a baby girl was born right there beside the road.
The deputy made sure the newborn was breathing and stayed with the family until emergency crews arrived.
The mother and baby were then taken for medical care.
And the speeding ticket?
There wasn’t one.
A traffic stop that could have ended with a citation instead ended with a new life entering the world.
Sometimes the person who pulls you over ends up being exactly the person you needed.
