On April 26, police in Northern Ireland reported a car bombing incident near a police station in the Dunmurry area of Belfast. Authorities believe the New IRA was involved in this act, which is being treated as an attempted murder. Remarkably, no injuries were reported.

Incident Details.

The incident unfolded late on Saturday night when a delivery car was hijacked in West Belfast. According to police reports, an explosive device was placed in the car’s boot, and the delivery driver was coerced into driving the vehicle to the police station and abandoning it there.

Investigation Insights.

Bobby Singleton, the Deputy Chief Constable of the Police Service of Northern Ireland, briefed reporters on the situation, highlighting the similarities to a previous attack earlier in the year. "Our early working hypothesis is that this may well be the work of the New IRA, who claimed responsibility for the attack in Lurgen," Singleton stated.

Previous Incidents.

The March attack on a police station in Lurgen bore a striking resemblance in method. In that incident, a car was hijacked, and the driver was forced to abandon a bomb, though the device did not detonate.

Thanks to the prompt action of the police, the recent attack did not result in any injuries. Singleton described the lack of casualties as "nothing short of miraculous." The authorities continue to investigate the involvement of the New IRA in this dangerous act, underscoring the ongoing security challenges in the region.
