Microsoft Begins Automatic Installation of Windows 11 25H2

As previous versions of Windows 11 approach the end of their support cycle, Microsoft is proactively initiating the automatic installation of Windows 11 25H2 on unmanaged devices. This move ensures that users continue to receive vital security updates and protections from the latest security threats.

End of Support for Windows 11 24H2.

Windows 11, version 24H2, will stop receiving updates after October 13, 2026. After this date, devices running the Home and Pro editions of version 24H2 will no longer receive fixes for known issues, time zone updates, technical support, or monthly security updates. To maintain security, Microsoft is pushing the latest version, Windows 11 25H2, to more devices.

Automatic Updates for Unmanaged Devices

Devices that are not managed by IT departments and are running the Home and Pro editions of Windows 11, version 24H2, will receive the Windows 11 25H2 update automatically. Users have the flexibility to choose when to restart their devices or to postpone the update.

Checking for Updates.

If you own an eligible Windows 10 or Windows 11 device, you can manually check if the update is available by navigating to:

  1. Settings > Windows Update
  2. Select Check for updates

If your device is prepared for the update, you will have the option to Download and install Windows 11, version 25H2.

Intelligent Rollout

Microsoft is employing a machine learning-based intelligent rollout strategy to expand the update to all eligible devices.

This ensures a seamless transition to Windows 11 25H2 for devices running the Home and Pro editions of Windows 11, version 24H2, that are not under IT management.

The update process is designed to be hassle-free, requiring no action from the user unless they wish to choose a specific time to restart or delay the update.

By pushing the latest updates, Microsoft aims to provide enhanced security and support to its users, ensuring their devices are protected and up-to-date with the latest technological advancements.
