Killers Disguised as NDLEA Operatives Strike Plateau Community.
Governor Mutfwang's Revelation
In a shocking disclosure, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang revealed that the perpetrators of a recent deadly attack in the Angwan Rukuba area of Jos North Local Government Area disguised themselves as operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). This clever ruse allowed the attackers to infiltrate the community undetected, resulting in the tragic loss of at least 28 lives and leaving several others injured.
The Deceptive Attack.
Governor Mutfwang, speaking in an interview on Channels Television, explained that the attackers capitalized on the community’s familiarity with NDLEA operations. Residents, accustomed to seeing NDLEA operatives conducting raids for drug-related issues, were deceived by the attackers’ appearance and actions.
He stated: “Obviously, the attackers have studied the psychology of the people who are used to seeing operatives of the NDLEA who come to raid neighbouring communities in search of drug addicts and what have you. So, they came in that manner, hooded, and were shooting in the manner NDLEA officers used to shoot. So people took it for granted that it was an NDLEA incursion… and they didn’t resist it initially.”
When the community realized the true nature of the attack, significant damage had already been inflicted, and the attackers managed to escape.
Efforts to Bring Justice.
Despite no arrests being made yet, Governor Mutfwang assured residents that security agencies are actively pursuing credible intelligence to apprehend the culprits. “At the moment, no arrests have been made in regard to this particular attack. But I’d like to assure Plateau people and Nigerians that we have some actionable intelligence that the security agencies are following up,” he confirmed.
He refrained from providing further details on the suspects due to the ongoing investigations but highlighted that there are promising leads that might lead to their capture.
A Call for Calm.
The governor described the assault as meticulously planned and executed, emphasizing the attackers' proficiency in handling weapons. He warned that the attack might be an attempt to destabilize the state and disrupt the peace
Plateau had recently achieved.
While acknowledging the public's anger and grief, Mutfwang urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding, cautioning against actions that could further escalate tensions. His message emphasized the importance of unity and resilience in the face of such adversity, as efforts continue to bring those responsible to justice.
