The Ministry of Transport has signed a contract with Vision Consult, in collaboration with KPMG, to conduct a feasibility study for a proposed coastal water transport service from Keta in the Volta Region to Axim in the Western Region.
The six-month study will assess the viability of establishing the coastal water transport route and examine its potential to expand transportation options along Ghana’s coastline.
Under the agreement, Vision Consult and KPMG will undertake the necessary technical and related assessments before presenting their findings and recommendations to the government.
The outcome of the study will inform the government’s decision on whether the proposed coastal water transport service is viable and should be developed.
The Ministry said the initiative forms part of efforts to explore alternative modes of transportation and improve connectivity along the coast.
According to the Ministry, if implemented, the proposed service would provide an additional transport option for communities and travellers between the Volta and Western regions.
