The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has entered into a landmark refinery partnership with Royal Ghana Gold Refinery as the country intensifies efforts to add more value to its mineral resources before export.
Under the new agreement, GoldBod will supply up to one metric tonne of gold every week to the refinery for local processing. The move forms part of Ghana’s broader strategy to strengthen domestic refining capacity and maximise revenue from the nation’s gold sector.
This becomes GoldBod’s second refinery partnership in 2026 after its earlier collaboration with Gold Coast Refinery, highlighting the government’s renewed focus on industrialisation within the mining industry.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, GoldBod Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi reaffirmed President John Mahama’s vision of ensuring that all minerals mined in Ghana are refined locally before export by the year 2030.
According to officials, the agreement is expected to help Ghana retain significant refining fees, recover valuable by-products from gold processing, create employment opportunities and position the country as one of Africa’s leading gold refining hubs.
The Bank of Ghana and Royal Ghana Gold Refinery also expressed their commitment to supporting the initiative as part of efforts to drive economic transformation and industrial growth across the country.
