The GH¢30 million Exim Bank case involving former NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has taken an interesting turn.
The prosecution has filed an amended charge sheet. and the amendment is quite specific.
One of the allegations concerns the alleged uttering of a forged document.
But the prosecution has now identified exactly what document it says was forged:
A pro-forma invoice of EPSONS GHANA LIMITED.
According to the amended charge, the prosecution alleges that in 2017, Mr Antwi-Boasiako used the document, knowing it was not genuine, with the intention of defrauding officials of Exim Bank and obtaining GH¢4 million.
That level of specificity matters.
The allegation is no longer simply that a “forged document” was uttered.
The prosecution is identifying the particular document, the company connected to it, the alleged purpose for which it was used, the amount allegedly sought, and the bank allegedly targeted.
The defence has not yet had the opportunity to fully consider the amended charge. Counsel told the court he had only just received it and needed time to peruse it with substantive counsel.
The court has therefore adjourned the matter to October 13, 2026, when the amended charges are expected to be substituted and the accused persons will plead afresh.
