The arrests include three minors apprehended following Saturday's attempt to detonate a homemade explosive device, and two adults taken into custody on Monday.

Details of the Attempted Attack.

The initial arrest occurred when a suspect placed an explosive device, containing an ignition system and five liters of liquid believed to be fuel, outside the US financial institution situated near the Champs-Elysees in the city's 8th arrondissement. The suspect reportedly claimed to be a minor from Senegal and was allegedly recruited via Snapchat to carry out the attack for a reward of 600 euros ($688).

The first detainee was reportedly accompanied by another individual who was documenting the event using a mobile phone. This accomplice evaded capture when the police intervened, and it remains unclear if this individual is among those currently in custody.

Investigation Into Suspected Terrorist Links.

PNAT is investigating several charges, including attempted damage by fire or other dangerous means as part of a “terrorist plot,” as well as participation in a “terrorist” criminal association. French authorities suspect a connection to the Iran war due to the attack's similarities with recent attempts in Europe, allegedly linked to a pro-Iran group.

Potential Links to Pro-Iran Group.

Interior Minister Laurent Nunez discussed the possibility of ties to the Iran war, highlighting that the attack's "modus operandi" mirrored incidents in the Netherlands and Belgium. These were purportedly claimed by a group called Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamia, or the “Islamic Movement of the Companions of the Right,” which also took responsibility for setting fire to ambulances belonging to a Jewish charity in London’s Golders Green.

Nunez suggested that Iran's intelligence services might be employing proxies and subcontractors, often common criminals, to execute actions targeting US interests, Jewish communities, or Iranian opposition figures. The investigation continues as authorities work to confirm identities and establish definitive connections to the broader geopolitical context.
