Former Liverpool and Brazil football star Roberto Firmino and his wife, Larissa Pereira, were consecrated as pastors at Manah Church in Maceió, Brazil, in June 2024.
The couple helped establish the church approximately three years earlier.
Reflecting on their new role, Firmino said becoming a pastor or obtaining a position within a church had never been their original goal.
Instead, he said everything changed after they encountered Christ.
“Since we encountered Christ, a desire burns in our hearts—that people may know this love that reached us,” the couple shared while announcing their pastoral ministry.
They described their new responsibility as serving as pastors after God’s heart and cooperating with His Kingdom.
Firmino also emphasized that he did not view the moment as the result of personal achievement, instead attributing it to God’s power and mercy.
The pastoral calling represents another chapter in Firmino’s publicly expressed Christian faith.
In 2020, while playing for Liverpool, Firmino was baptized and shared the moment publicly, declaring his faith in Jesus and describing Christ’s love as central to his life.
From scoring goals in front of packed stadiums to serving within a local church, Firmino says the purpose behind this new chapter is not recognition or status.
It is helping others encounter the same faith and love that he says transformed his own life.
