On Tuesday, Burkina Faso's security ministry announced a comprehensive operation designed to bolster security throughout the country. The ministry urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, particularly near sensitive sites such as military barracks, airports, administrative buildings, and other critical installations.

A police source, speaking anonymously to AFP, confirmed that a significant security presence has been deployed in Ouagadougou and other regions. Additional police units have been positioned at strategic intersections within the capital to enhance security and gather intelligence on crime and terrorism-related activities.

Regional Context and Concerns.

These security measures follow unprecedented attacks by jihadist and Tuareg rebels in Mali. Like Burkina Faso and Niger, Mali is governed by a military regime, and all three nations have been targets of extremist groups linked to al-Qaeda and the Islamic State over the past decade.

A Burkinabe military source emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating that the army is on a "state of alert because we are at war."
