Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko have confirmed their participation in the 2026 Democracy Cup football match.

The game has been scheduled to come off at the Baba Yara Stadium on Friday, August 28 with another giant trophy at stake.

Kotoko, will face their arch rivals Accra Hearts of Oak in this one off pre-season contest before the 2026-27 football season begins in Ghana.

The Porcupines took to their social media channels in announcing their participation in the contest which will serve as a final dress rehearsal for the start of the new season.

Coach Eric Tinkler will have an opportunity to play in front of the Asante Kotoko faithful for the first time following his appointment to the post last month.

The former South African international has been taking the players through pre-season as they prepare for the new campaign.

They will look to get the better of Hearts of Oak in Friday's game to boost their confidence going into the new season.

Asante Kotoko won the maiden edition of the Democracy Cup in 2024 ironically, beating Hearts of Oak in Accra for the trophy.

Hearts of Oak won the last edition in 2025 against Accra Great Olympics and, the Phobians will have revenge on their minds going into this upcoming contest against their bitter rivals in Kumasi.

The Democracy Cup is an annual football game organized by the Parliament of Ghana in association with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in support of Ghana's parliamentary democracy.
