US Iran says Hormuz passage to resume under army supervision-
US-Iran Tensions Ease with Temporary Ceasefire and Strait of Hormuz Reopening
Iran's Announcement.
Iran's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, has announced that passage through the Strait of Hormuz will be permitted over the next two weeks under the strict supervision of the Iranian army. This strategic waterway, a vital route for global oil shipments, has been a focal point of tension in recent months.
US Response.
In response, US President Donald Trump declared a temporary suspension of bombing operations against Iran, signaling a mutual ceasefire agreement. This decision follows discussions with key figures, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir of Pakistan, who advocated for de-escalation.
Trump's Statement
President Trump shared his decision on his Truth Social platform, stating:
Based on conversations with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir of Pakistan, and wherein they requested that I hold off the destructive force being sent tonight to Iran, and subject to the Islamic Republic of Iran agreeing to the COMPLETE, IMMEDIATE, and SAFE OPENING of the Strait of Hormuz, I agree to suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks.
Ceasefire Conditions and Peace Negotiations
Trump emphasized that the ceasefire would be reciprocal:
“This will be a double-sided CEASEFIRE! The reason for doing so is that we have already met and exceeded all Military objectives, and are very far along with a definitive Agreement concerning Long-term PEACE with Iran, and
PEACE in the Middle East.
The President also noted that a 10-point proposal from Iran serves as a viable framework for ongoing negotiations. He asserted that most contentious issues have been resolved and that the two-week ceasefire will provide the necessary time to finalize a comprehensive agreement.
Looking Forward.
President Trump concluded his announcement with optimism for a lasting resolution:
“On behalf of the United States of America, as President, and also representing the Countries of the Middle East, it is an Honour to have this Long-term problem close to resolution. Thank you for your attention to this matter.”
The international community will be closely watching these developments, hoping that this temporary ceasefire marks a significant step toward lasting peace in the region.
