Police in London have launched a manhunt for a prisoner who escaped while being transported from court to prison.

The inmate, identified as Temitope Segun, reportedly fled on Monday evening while being transferred from Bromley Magistrates' Court to HMP Thameside.

According to authorities, the 25-year-old allegedly assaulted a prison escort officer before escaping near Woolwich High Street at about 6:40pm.

Segun is currently serving a prison sentence for supplying Class A drugs.

At the time of his escape, he was reportedly wearing a black jacket, black trousers, and black trainers.

Police believe he has connections to the areas of Plumstead, Abbey Wood, and Woolwich.

Private security company [Serco] which was responsible for transporting the prisoner, confirmed the incident and said an internal investigation has been launched.

The company also revealed that a member of staff was injured during the escape and is currently recovering at home.

Detective Sergeant Claudine Manning said officers are working tirelessly to locate and apprehend the fugitive.

“My team of dedicated officers are working around the clock to trace and apprehend Temitope Segun.

It is imperative that the public contact police via 999 if they see him or know where he may be.”
